Course Description

Introduction

This course provides students with the skills and knowledge in performing a range of administrative tasks to support the operational effectiveness and efficiency of an organization.

Brief Description of Module

1. Office Software Applications

On completion of the module, students should be able to produce office documents using word processing, database, spreadsheet and presentation software packages.

2. Customer Service

On completion of the module, students should be able to cultivate customer contact and rapport, manage their needs and expectations, obtain feedback and handle service breakdown and recovery.

3.Professional Image and Etiquette

On completion of the module, students should be able to observe proper grooming techniques and apply business etiquette in relating to people.

4. Principles of Office Administration

On completion of the module, students should be able to prepare sales and purchasing documents, process mail, manage a filing system, attend to visitors and arrange meetings and make travel arrangement for an overseas trip.

5. Effective Communication

On completion of the module, students should be able to handle both oral and simple written communications in an office. The training covers interpretation and analysis of business text and documents, telephone skills, written communication and oral presentation.

6. Business Event Organisation

On completion of the module, students should be able to prepare and organize company events.

7. Book-Keeping

On completion of the module, students should be able to record business transactions and prepare simple final accounts for sole proprietorships.

8. Basic of Personal Finance

On completion of the module, students should be able to analyze basic financial information needed to choose between financial objectives and compare the consequences of their decisions. On completion of the modules, students would be able to better budget their money, save for the future, and realize their financial objectives.

Entry Requirements

To apply for this NITEC in Service Skills (Office) course, you must possess:

  • 2 GCE ‘O’ Level subject passes (Grade 1-8) in any 2 subjects; Or
  • 3 GCE ‘N’ Level subjects passes (Grade 1-5) in English Language and two other subjects; Or
  • 3 SPM Level subjects pass (Grade 1-6) including English Language, Mathematics & 1 relevant subject; Or
  • A pass in Entrance Test conducted by ITE
  • Age Requirement: 16 years

Graduation Requirements

Candidates must fulfill at least 75% course attendance requirements by AEB to sit for examinations. To obtain the Nitec in Service Skills (Office) certification, student need to complete all 8 modules, and accumulate at least 41 credits within 6 years duration based on 1st sitting of examinations.

Mode of Examination

Examinations will be conducted externally by ITE Examinations board. Examinations include both a theory and a practical test, and is conducted every March/September.
