Synopsis
Aerospace Materials and Processes

This module provides students with knowledge of common aerospace materials such as aluminum, magnesium, titanium and nickel-based alloy systems, super alloys, ceramics and composites and manufacturing processes. Students will appreciate the importance of structure-property-processing-performance relationship and understand the effects of fatigue, creep and corrosion in aircraft components.

Airworthiness Legislation and Quality Systems

Airworthiness Legislation provides students with basic knowledge of key aviation regulations and airworthiness requirements governing the aerospace industry. Students will gain an appreciation of the roles and organization of aviation governing bodies responsible for the safety standards and aviation regulations. In the context of the local aerospace industry, the module covers in greater depth the Singapore Air Navigation Order (ANO), with focus on the Singapore Airworthiness Requirements.

In Quality Systems, students learn to apply quality management techniques and principles. Topics include total quality management concepts and philosophy; quality systems and audits; benchmarking and quality costs; quality tools and techniques; statistical quality control techniques; sampling plans and inspection techniques; design of experiments to optimize and improve products and processes; and lean manufacturing in the aerospace industry.

Aerospace Computer Aided Design
This practice-oriented module enables students to acquire computer-aided design skills and a good understanding of aerospace design process. Students will work in a design project which exposes them to the basic aerospace programme management, system engineering and design practices up to Design Review.
