Basic Air Cargo Course

Course Description

This course is meant for staff of cargo agents, shippers and airlines who wish to have an understanding of freight forwarding and air cargo processing. The successful completion of the course will give participants knowledge that is necessary to progress in the air cargo industry.

Objectives

To familiarize participants with the basics of air cargo procedures and techniques and a broad understanding of freight forwarding and airline operations. 

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • accept and prepare ordinary shipments for carriage (excluding dangerous goods)
  • complete air waybills in accordance with lATA standards
  • apply published rates and calculate charges
  • pass on basic information to clients

Course Contents

  • Acceptance of cargo excluding dangerous goods
  • Calculation of published rate charges excluding bulk unitization charges (ULDs)
  • Basic information regarding handling
  • Routing of air cargo shipments/geography
  • Completion of air waybills
  • How to read cargo manuals
  • Operation of a freight forwarder
  • Operation of airline cargo units

Duration : 4 days course

*Note : A proficiency test of 3 hours will be held on the last day of the course.
