Joining enables the construction of different structures by bringing together parts of different properties, dimensions and compositions. To a very large extent, joining process is considered as one of the core elements in determining the performance and reliability of a product as the joint part usually forms the weakest link of the whole structure. This unit covers the fundamentals and applications of various joining techniques used in various industries. With hands-on lab experiments, the participants will gain practical knowledge on the welding/joining of different materials and factors affecting the particular joining process as well as its joint quality.
