Colour is the most potent and flexible element of interior design, and the course is designed to enable participants to discover its properties, along with investigating its history and psychology of its use. Participants will learn how to introduce colour into an interior in a way that allows for experimentation and play.

Useful guidelines will be incorporated to build participants’ confidence in using colour and to foster their inspiration in creating new spectrums and applications.

Particular emphasis will be placed on underlying design approaches, terms and definitions relating to colour, principles and methods of selecting and using colour to achieve the desired effect, philosophies, constraints, influences and areas of innovation.

Aim of the Course       

The course provides the basic knowledge, skills and understanding required for a student to apply the basic knowledge of colour into a self-identified residential interior design solution.

Learning Objectives

Participants who successfully complete the program will be able to:

• Identify the physical, psychological, emotional, social and cultural responses to colour appropriate to interior design.
• Use appropriate colour theories to visually control and create illusions that help enhance or subdue residential interiors.
• Apply the properties and characteristics of colours while taking into consideration the effects of natural and artificial lighting in a self-identified residential interior design scheme.
