On 5 February, at the bizSAFE Convention 2015 themed “A Safer and Healthier Workplace for Everyone”, Minister for Manpower Mr Tan Chuan-Jin announced that the national workplace fatal injury rate for 2014 has been reduced to 1.8 per 100,000 employees from 2.3 in 2013. He highlighted that while the WSH 2018 target has been met, 60 lives were still lost at work last year and one life lost is one too many.
In this regard, it is important that all stakeholders at the workplaces need to fully understand their statutory duties under the WSH regulatory framework and the risk management process in order for them to manage the workplace risk effectively to further reduce the workplace accident rate to as close to zero as possible.
Objective
The one-day course will provide the stakeholders such as employers, self-employed persons, employees, occupiers, principals, their contractors and sub-contractors with an overview of the WSH regulatory framework and their statutory duties to ensure safety of their workplaces.
The course will also go through the process of hazard identification at workplaces so that appropriate actions can be taken to eliminate or reduce the risks associated with the hazards identified.
