Preparatory Course for Cambridge English for Speakers of Other Language (ESOL)

Course Description

Aim & Objective: 

This course aims to further develop awareness and use of the conventions of academic English among those of you from other learning culture. More specifically the course will further develop the reading and writing ability in a variety of academic registers as well as developing listening and speaking skills through seminars, lectures and presentations with in a university context.:

Course Duration: 12 months

Admission Requirements:

Age should be above 18 yrs

Complete “O” level or equivalent

3 GCSE I or equivalent

Course Structure

Key English Test – KET is the first level of Cambridge exams in English for speakers of other languages (ESOL).KET recognizes the ability to cope  with everyday written and spoken communication at a basic level and it also enables candidates to demonstrate a level of English that is useful when travelling in English speaking countries.

Preliminary English Test:  PET identifies the strength and weakness in using English, PET is used in everyday events, writing letters on familiar subjects it gives the pathway to higher qualification such as the FCE.

Assessment mode:

KET & PET has three papers:

1. Reading and writing

2. Listening

3. Speaking

First Certificate in English: FCE is at Level 2 in European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) an internationally recognized benchmark of language ability. The frame work uses six levels to describe the language ability from A1 to C2.After completing FCE the learners can understand the main ideas of complex pieces of writing, keep up a conversation on a fairly wide range of topics expressing their opinions.

Successful candidates receive a certificate awarded by University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations. All candidates also receive a statement of results showing how they performed in each of the papers.
