Course Description

 Course Objectives

This course will help participants:

  • Understand the difference between “art in therapy” and “art as therapy”
  • Understand normal artistic development in children
  • Greater understanding and more purposeful use of the therapeutic space, different medium, the creative process for therapeutic intervention

  • Tenants of Art Therapy
  • A brief history
  • Artistic development in children
  • An overview of Art Therapy with a child through a case presentation
  • Art materials and their therapeutic properties
  • Expressive Therapies Continuum (ETC)

 Who Should Attend

Social workers, psychologists, counsellors, teachers and other social service practitioners working with children.

 

Award

Participants who meet 75% class attendance will be awarded a Certificate of Accomplishment by the Academy of Human Development.
